Case Study: Constructions for Humanity
First Pier designed and developed a new website for the Constructions of Humanity charity auction. Items were listed for sale on the auction site for people to bid on. Those items that reached their reserve price were sold, and items that did not were to be sold in a live auction at the Maine Home and Design show.
The site was developed on a custom content management system (CMS). The administrator could easily post the items being auctioned, manage pictures, set start and end times, and set minimum bids and buy it now prices.
In addition, the site included user registration and management. Bidders were able to create their own accounts and bid on items. Payment functions were included in the site, so a winning bidder could complete their purchase online as well.
Reporting features were important to keep the auction organized. An administrator could easily get bidding, sales, and user reports.

All proceeds from the auction went to benefit the Midcoast Habitat for Humanity Chapter. Each piece had to be no larger than 3' x 3' and as many materials as possible had to be used, each artist was able add materials of their own. The box contained bricks, stones, granite pieces, copper pipe pieces, fabric, used paint brushes, plates, pottery shards, boards, wire mesh, paint sample and a number of other odds and ends.
