Case Study: iWalkthrough
iWalkthrough.org is a website from the Great Schools Partnership. It is a tool for teachers to collect data and make observations that can later be analyzed and compared with student-achievement data to reveal instructional patterns at schools and help school improvement.
GSP asked First Pier to address two issues for them. First, the video hosting they were using was somewhat cumbersome to use and it was often blocked by schools, which often caused users think the problem was with the website. Second, they also wanted to add a counter on the homepage to better showcase the number of observations already in the system, and to show that this number continues to grow.
First Pier installed a new solution for hosting videos. With their older system, they were uploading videos on a third party site, and then embedding them into their posts individually. With the system we built, videos are now all managed from within the iWalkthrough website control panel. They can upload, view, and add videos to the site without having to go to an outside site. In addition to this, it allows them easier access to their viewing statistics.
First Pier designed and installed a new counter keeps tracks observations as they’re put into the system, and displays that number on the home page. The new counter fits into the site’s design, as if it were an original component rather than a later addition.
