Becoming Jewelry is a handmade jewelry company based in Kennebunk, Maine. Every piece is paired with a literary quote, turning each necklace, bracelet, or pair of earrings into something more personal than jewelry alone. The brand is rooted in honoring moments, relationships, and the people who shape us. When it came time to design their physical packaging and storefront signage, we wanted every piece to feel as meaningful as the jewelry itself.
Becoming needed a suite of packaging materials and exterior signage for their new downtown Kennebunk storefront. Because every necklace ships with a literary quote, the packaging had to do more than protect the product. It needed to feel like part of the gift, something worth keeping.
The centerpiece of the packaging suite is the necklace card. Inspired by the brand's deep connection to literary quotes, we designed the cards to look like library cards, complete with a distressed texture applied to the text as if the card had been checked out dozens of times. They're printed on a premium, ivory, cotton-finished paper chosen for its warmth and tactile quality, designed to feel less like packaging and more like a keepsake. We carried this same paper and design approach across the rest of the suite: note cards, care-for-your-jewelry cards, and thank you tags printed on large, luggage-style hang tags that call to mind an old movie ticket stub. Stickers were designed for packaging with a “Made in Maine” callout to emphasize the handcrafted, small-business origins of the brand. For the new Kennebunk storefront, we designed a paneled wood sign that leans into the handcrafted feel of the brand and nods to the rustic, coastal character of the Kennebunk coastline.
The packaging reads as an extension of the jewelry rather than something you throw away. From the library card necklace packaging to the luggage-tag thank you notes, every piece reinforces what Becoming is about: holding on to the moments and people that matter.
