UX & Site Redesign for Krovel Furniture

Halcyon Yarn Shopify store redesign showing product filtering and improved navigation on desktop and mobile

Krovel Furniture Co. has been making high-quality modern furniture in Portland, Maine for over a decade. Specializing in hardwood floating furniture, every Krovel piece is meticulously crafted in Maine, finished with VOC-free tung oil, and shipped completely without plastic or styrofoam.

Background

Krovel had an outdated Shopify theme and a product catalog complexity that belied the clean lines and simple joinery of their furniture. After years of growth on Etsy and spurred by the pandemic, Krovel was looking for a refreshed ecommerce experience.

The Solution

Following CRO best practices, we worked with Krovel to reorganize their catalog specifically for faceted search, building out a navigation structure to help customers find exactly what they were looking for.

The Outcome

With custom illustrations, sibling products, and integrated volume pricing, we developed a website as functional and beautiful as the furniture it showcases.

Everyone I've worked with has been a joy to work with; funny, smart, and hardworking while remaining professional.

The Takeaway

Halcyon Yarn came to First Pier with a failed project, a frustrated team, and a deadline they desperately needed to hit before their peak winter season. First Pier delivered — on time, better than expected, with full training and documentation. Online sales increased within the first month. Several costly legacy systems were retired. The operational efficiency gains are compounding. When the previous vendor left a 50-year-old business more than a year behind schedule, First Pier got them across the finish line in four months. As owner Gretchen Jaeger put it: no notes, seriously.
